Commissioning a Pet Portrait

Portraits are painted using good quality, clear photographs of your pet. I like to work from one photo, but welcome a selection, so that I can get a feel for the character of your pet. The main photograph should show the face and eyes clearly, all in good focus and as high resolution as possible. They should be taken outside or in a room with good natural light. It helps to get on the same level as the subject, so that they are preferably looking at you or just off to one side. Once I receive the photographs, I will be able to decide if they are good enough to work from or advise on what angle might work better and if we need any further taken.

Please check out my galleries, so that you can see the different poses and angles I have painted. If there is a particular one you like, please let me know the name and consider the angle when you are taking your photographs.

Please email them to me at studio@jochesneyart.co.uk. If you only have hard copies, please send them to me by signed for delivery. The photos will be returned with the finished portrait.

In certain circumstances, if you are local to me (within 15 miles), I can arrange to come and take photographs of your pet for a charge of £50.

I work in acrylic paints on either box canvas or canvas board in various sizes. We can discuss your requirements and proposed canvas size.

Pricing

Prices do vary depending on the size of the painting, number of subjects, whether there is a detailed background involved, and if a frame is required. As a guide, below are the starting prices for unframed works. Once we have confirmed the detail of the painting, I will let you have a final cost before commencing work.

35 x 25 cm (14 x 10”) Single Animal - Acrylic painting on Box Canvas or Canvas Board - £230.00 plus p&p

40 x 30 cm (16 x 12”) Single Animal - Acrylic painting on Box Canvas or Canvas Board - £250.00 plus p&p

45 x 36 cm (18 x 14”) Single Animal - Acrylic painting on Box Canvas or Canvas Board - £280.00 plus p&p. This is a good size for two head & shoulder pet portraits, please allow an extra £140 for each additional pet

**New For 2024** 25 x 25 cm (10 x 10”) Single Animal - Acrylic painting on Box Canvas or Canvas Board - £220.00 plus p&p

Other sizes available - £POA

NB: Prices are based on a head & shoulder image of a single animal on a plain background. The exact size of portrait will vary depending on the subject and your requirements. These details will be finalised before commencing any work.

Deposit & Final Payments

I ask for a 50% deposit on placement of your order and would ask for at least a month’s lead time. However, if you have a special date for a birthday or a wedding for example, or a last minute request, please do contact me and I will let you know if I can complete the portrait in time and if there is a waiting list.

As soon as the portrait is complete, I will be in touch and will ask for the balance to be paid for by bank transfer. Once payment has been received, I will package up the painting and send on to you.

Packing, Postage & Delivery

All portraits and prints will be packaged carefully and delivered, allowing for an insured, trackable and signed for service.

International Delivery

Rates will vary depending on the size and weight of the finished artwork. A shipping quotation will be provided before commencing work on the portrait, for your approval.

Terms & Conditions

Jo Chesney retains the copyright to all artwork, including prints, greeting cards and commissioned originals and has the right to use commissioned pieces for promotional use.
